St. Louis, March 2005

A quick weekend trip to St. Louis for our dear Meghan & Howard's wedding.  We left at about 6 PM and drove through what should be illegal to have to drive, the most BORING drive of all drives, Kansas.  But we made it early Sat. AM in time to have a shower and go check out the sight of St. Louis, the arch.  It was pretty cool to go up in.  Then it was time for the rehearsal and dinner at a local pub, where it was great fun and quite entertaining to meet with some of Chito's old friends and family.  Then we drove down to Cape Girardeau (about and hour's drive) to stay with Grandma Miller.  It was great to see her, but we were so tired we just fell right to sleep.  The next AM we were off to the wedding after a quick breakfast with grandma.  Mike went with the boys while the girls had a small brunch before we headed off to get all primped up.  Off to the art museum for the wedding, after some COLD outside pictures (which turned out great) inside we went for the beautifully decorated woodland themed ceremony...which of course Meg looked stunning and Howard very handsome and manly (even though he pulled at all of our heart strings as he tried his hardest, but didn't succeed, to not bawl during the ceremony....very sweet).  So after a yummy dinner and cake we left the newlyweds to head back to grandmas for the night.  Went to breakfast with grandma and was able to spend a bit of time visiting before we were back on the road through hell again....go west young man! ...we couldn't agree more!

Moab & Arches National Park,
March 2005

A quick trip out west with our dear friend Amy to get in a bit of early season mountain biking and enjoy the beautiful scenery.  It rained only on the first day, but no worries for this motley crew, we have the Holiday Inn on wheels!  ..only this time there was the 3 of us, and Luna, to sleep on the full-sized mattress.  Quite cozy.  Amy took a bit of a spill while riding my pink Jekyll and scraped her chin a bit, but was otherwise undaunted.  Drove to Arches and hiked to see a bunch of the, you guessed it, arches, which were quite wondrous.  Stopped in a few times at the local brewery for good eats and Salsa Cycles to "check things out."  All in all it was a quick 3 day trip, but once again, a great break from "real life"  in the beautiful out of doors.

Puerto Vallarta, May 2005

Off for a celebratory trip for Jen's Ph.D. graduation (FINALLY!)  and Mikie's first experience of Mexico.  A great price on a quick trip was too hard to pass up and off we were to experience Puerto Vallarta, all-inclusive style.  Not bad.  Checked into the room, stashed our goods and off we went, to the bar of course!  Free drinks, free food, free beach and free sun.  We soaked it all in on the first day.  Then we spent the second day kayaking off the beach where we found ourselves surrounded by a pod of feeding dolphins, complete with a neonate (baby) in the group.  The smiles those creatures always bring to my face!  The rest of the day was spent in town wandering aimlessly...ahhh the beach life!....and taking in the sites.   For our final full day we opted for a trip to a secluded beach on the southern coast of Puerto Vallarta.  Here we snorkeled (Mike's first time, and no worries with his asthma which was great!!), and again, soaked in the sun, drinks and yummy food.  Off we were early the next morning for the airport and flight home.  Funny how a few days away at the beach can somehow feel like a week!

Crested Butte & Maroon Bells,
July 2005

Yet again a quick trip for the weekend warriors, this time back to Crested Butte.  But first we stop by the Maroon Bells for a quick hike, since we didn't make it out there during our Colorado trip a few summers ago.  Very pretty.  No need to stop in Aspen so we continue on to Crested Butte.  After a quick ride to the top of the jeep trail by where we camped we spent the rest of the evening just relaxing and taking in all the beautiful scenery (it was the height of the wildflower season), fresh air and great company.  After buying a house, moving and Jen starting a new job this was a  good, and much needed trip to re-connect with each other.   If only there weren't a bazillion flies!!! We spent the next two days lounging, riding and relaxing in the wild and in town.  On our way out of town we met up with Damon who we had heard on the radio earlier and realized he was in town to play for one of their concert series, crazy! ...but unfortunately we had to miss the concert to head back home so we could make it to work the next morning.
